Our associate Luciano Gutman was invited by the eCommerce Institute to teach a class on privacy compliance as part of the Cross Border course. The class focused on the General Data Protection Regulation of the European Union, the Brazilian General Data Protection Law and the Personal Information Protection Law of China.
Luciano outlined the main aspects of privacy law companies shall have in mind when offering goods through cross-border ecommerce, such as the extraterritorial application of the aforementioned laws, international data transfers, and the different roles and obligations of data controllers and processors.
In the end, the class analyzed privacy compliance not only as a means to avoid sanctions, but also as an asset and a competitive advantage that may increase business opportunities.
We thank the eCommerce Institute for the invitation, and all the students who participated in the class through their questions and remarks.
