General Availability “.ar”

General Availability “.ar”

The Argentine Domain Registrar (“Nic.AR”) recently announced the opening of the general availability period for zone “.ar” on September 15 of this year.

Resolution 45/2019 issued by Nic.AR authorizes the domain names registration directly in the Top Level Domain “.ar”, under the zone “.ar”, and provides that the general availability period is ruled by the Regulation for the Domains Administration in Argentina as well as by related norms issued by Nic.AR to said effect. Thus, different to previous stages, as of September 15th there are no privileges or preferences for domain owners based on preferential domain names or an alleged interest in the terms of the Resolution. Notwithstanding the foregoing, if the domain name is assigned and a third party claims a better right over the domain, that party might be entitled to initiate a dispute process for its assignment.

Finally, it should be considered that in the “.ar” zone it is not allowed to register names of 1 to 3 characters and that there are certain domain names that may be reserved, restricted or subject to approval by Nic.AR.
